Dreaming in Reality Relaunched
My better half has relaunched her website, Dreaming in Reality, after having switched over to using WordPress after five years of using pMachine. We managed to successfully convert all of her posts not only from pMachine but from Blogger as well (which she had used for six months or so until late 2002). The process was a little tricky—not least because the domain that used to host the conversion script from pMachine -> Wordpress is now gone (thank you, Google cache)—but it’s done now.
The new site uses the K2 templating engine, which provides some sexy AJAX features for posting comments, searching posts, and surfing archives. I’m considering switching over myself, although the template design is a bit more restrictive unless you want to dig into the guts of the thing (then deal with having to merge changes whenever an update to K2 comes out—ugh)—my big beef is chiefly with the table-less design thing, which is a noble goal but really fucks designers over when it comes to designing elastic-width elements for MSIE.
Anyway, head on over to DIR and check out the new design and a few sexy new features, like browing Bex’ Flickr stream directly from the site using the Flickr API. Hott.
Addendum: I also merged her content from Picturing Reality into the same blog, which turned out to be relatively easy thanks to WordPress’ build-in import/export feature, which is (apparently) designed for doing exactly this sort of thing. It still took a few SQL queries, but it beat having to write my own conversion script, which I had started to do before I realised the less circuitous route for the conversion.
