The Good Life
Things have been quiet here for a while; there hasn’t been much to report (or at least, not much energy to report it).
We’ve now switched from Magma to Primus as our primary ISP. I can’t say the change has been either good or painless; there’s been more downtime with Primus in two weeks than there was with Magma across two years, and the Magma folks (what’s left, anyway) seem to know it, based on a couple calls with technical support. I’m hoping things even out now that the transition phase is over.
That said, we’ve had enough outages to make canceling our second ISP a frightening proposition for someone who depends on the connectivity for their career, so I reversed the cancellation; multi-homed we remain until Primus can show me they’re committed to stability and improve the quagmire of their technical services and support.
Things are good besides. I’ve forced myself to take a week of leave just to unwind a bit; it’s been years now since I had a week to myself to just relax, catch up on some chores around the house, and enjoy life a bit. It’s that much more fun now that I have a son to hang out with, too (although I confess I wish he could take a paper from my book and sleep in for at least a few mornings this week).
We’re going to head out to Mer Bleue today once Bex gets home from work; I’ve been kindly allowed to borrow a portable digital recorder (a Roland Edirol R-09, for what it’s worth) along with a brand-new, as of yet not field-tested shotgun microphone from my stepfather to see if I can find some nice sounds to record for later use in Boodler. I’m also hammering out the website templates for Boodler.org now that the design has been approved, and I have some time to put it all together. I might find time to put another blog post or two together as well, assuming I can find something to go on about.
